OLYMPUS TRIP AF 31 – KENTMERE PAN 400
Summer of `26

This is one is once again a first test of a new to me camera: the fully automatic point and shoot Olympus TRIP AF 31.

The camera is great in a sence that it’s just a square that I can have in my pocket, carelessly throw into my bag and have it to me everywhere I go. But I got to be honest – I didn’t like the fully automatic aspect of it, especially not being able to know whether it focused where I want it to. And the lack of ANY tactile feeling also didn’t make it more exciting.

Learnt two things after this shoot. Kentmere PAN 400 is way to grainy for my taste. It really does look like pictures from the 1900 -so grainy. Although I understand that the choice of camera didn’t help much with the persception but the film is still too grainy, I really prefer the Fomapan 100 over this. I wonder how the Kentmere pan 100 would perform compared to this. Another thing I learnt is that I should never put BW film into this camera. This camera is more of a “memory” camera and memories are not very well conveyed without color. In my opinion – BW film is for art and with such camera you can’t create good quality art. But for memories – I feel that it would be right. So I guess next I will try some Kodak Gold or Ultramax in this camera and use it at just specific times. Also I found something weird with the viewfinder – in a couple of photos I took the photo uncentered: way to the right and to the top compared to the center of my subject. Maybe I just didn’t allign myself correctly. Will need to be more careful next time I pick up this camera.
